Stop Calling Everyone Your Friend

2 min read

Girl, not everybody is your friend. I feel like that’s obvious, but I’ll be the first to admit, that was a hard lesson for me to learn. I don’t know why, because I knew better. In the past, I’ve had a hard time differentiating between those who are being genuine and those who aren’t.

But anyway, here’s my list of signs that you need to cut somebody off, because girl, it’s time to stop calling everybody your friend.

they're dishonest

This is the first sign that someone isn’t really your friend. This person is never truthful with you, even about the small things. You could ask them ‘what color the sky is?’ and they’ll tell you it’s black – just for the hell of it. They will lie to you for no apparent reason, and without hesitation. It seems like all they have time to do is lie. I’ve known a few people like this, but what I don’t understand is… what is the POINT in lying!? Just be honest. They are not a loyal friend. Because the truth is, if they’ll lie to you about simple things, they’ll lie to you about anything.

they're negative

This person is always bringing some negativity with them. They always seem to have woke up on the wrong side of the bed. They’re always mad about something and it’s just like… sis, why are you so upset? girl, get rid of them. They’re ruining the vibe and you don’t need to be surrounded by people like that.

This person always has something negative to say and they’re  never happy for you. They don’t support you and continuously discourage you. Girl, get your scissors and CUT that toxicity from your life.

they're selfish

They use you. The only reason they ever hit you up is when they need something. I’ll be honest, I’ve been a victim of this one. I’ve always been so willing to help those that I call my friends when they needed me, because that’s what friends are for. If you can’t depend on your friends in a time of need, then what’s the point? You’re always there when they need you but, when you need them, they are nowhere to be found.  Your needs are an inconvenience, or they’re just simply unwilling to help you. Get rid of them, sis!

  1. I work with a girl JUST LIKE THIS. We used to be friends until I started to realize that if she’s talking about people she’s probably talking about me too. Ugh.

  2. Everyone comes into your life for a reason… you could have been friends for years but when that time is up, BABY ITS UPPP!!!

      1. I think one has to earn the title of Friend… when means in my opinion you have to know that you’re meeting a person’s representative rather than the real person until you have spent enough time with them

  3. I am a magnet for people who need help. And although I’m a nurturer by nature you are right, I really should just let go of people I can never depend on when the roles reverse.

  4. Honey! If this ain’t the truth! Sometimes you have to learn the hard way though that everybody is not for you or your friend!

  5. You right not all people you met they are your friends! Some people that called you called friend they are the people who love to put you down!

  6. I’m good with having a few close friends! I generally don’t trust many. Been burned too many times

  7. Discovering your true friends is an important life lesson! I’ve dealt with many fake friends, but what they taught me is that one true friend is worth 1000 fake ones!

  8. Can we do the same thing with our children? My kid only wants me when he needs something. LOL! But seriously, these are great points. People like that are just toxic.

  9. This post is so timely for me. There’s plenty of other things that you can look forward to recognize when your friends aren’t your friends but this gives you a great point to start from so that you know who your real friends are.

  10. These are definitely three reasons not to call everyone your friend. I think though we all have our faults. So friendship sometimes overlooks some of them, or forgives things done. But it is important to make sure to have people who are not constantly negative or constantly dishonest.

  11. Lol I literally just was just going through this with two of my “friends”, but I finally cut them off. I was feeling so guilty about it, but after reading this its a good thing I did. They were just going to keep bringing me down. Glad I came here, I’ll be coming back for more tips and just good reads💕💕

  12. One thing that I really scared of people nowadays is not being honest when you really thought they are your friends. That’s why I always have a mind saying knowing a person require a long time. Because in some situations will make them change into a different person and maybe you won’t even recognize them. That’s how the world is, betrayal can happen anytime. But I don’t always think that way too because I believe there will still be some good people out there with full sincerity. Life is full of wonderful things than sticking with friends that do not value others well enough. I really love your topic, I think I can talk about it a lot too. Thanks for this <3

  13. I don’t have a lot of friends because I don’t usually and easily call everyone my friend, it may sound not so cool, but I am a bit choosy when it comes to befriending people. And I agree with the title and the article.
